Welcome to Sexual Orientation Discrimination At Work

Harassment

Woman being harassed

For example: A female member of staff is assumed to be bisexual so is put on a sales task as she can ‘flirt with them both’.

Harassment and victimisation is often whereby an atmosphere of oppression has been created regarding an orientation, for example homophobic jokes or homophobic comments are considered normal. Again this covers an individual who is associated.

For example: A family member need not accept homophobic comments regarding their brother despite the fact they are made behind his back.

This also involves any complaint procedure.

For example: A member of staff makes a complaint regarding the homophobic comments and later that day staff jokes about the complaint – this is also harassment.

Again any percieved orientation can also be included under this form of discrimination.
